Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy has graduated its inaugural class of wonderfully compassionate advocates. Miss Elle Cole of cleverly changing LLC is a proud graduate and speaks about her experience in the program. Our certified medical advocates with SCMA want to help in healing the pain point of health inequity in the emergency department and hospital. When our patients with Sickle Cell disease present with acute pain crises and need urgent help, our medical advocates will virtually accompany them and stick up for them, using the NIH and ASH guidelines, and strategies they have learned. Mr. Javon J. Smith is one of our amazing and compassionate advocates who recently graduated from SCMA’s Medical Advocacy Training(MAT) program. Javon shares about the journey and how he views the mission.

Kara O'Connor is the proud mom of an adopted son with Sickle Cell disease. She has only recently been introduced to this disease and all that her son suffers, but she is a relentless advocate on his behalf. She continues to advocate for many others in the Sickle Cell community with the disease.

Dr. Anthony Guobadia is one of the first people who dreamed with me of a class to teach healthcare providers about Sickle Cell disease. Today he is a proud graduate of Medical Advocacy Training, and speaks about his journey through the program. While it does not directly teach providers, Medical Advocates can certainly be a resource for them as we help our community navigate Sickle Cell disease.

Sabrina Pendleton is a MAT 2 graduate, and is also a Registered Nurse. She commented that the MAT program taught her information that her nursing program did not include and she wished that she had learned this information sooner.
